Dear colleagues and friends,

I am pleased to present to you the Postgraduate Programme of Studies of the School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki entitled “Therapeutic options and management of emergency vascular diseases”.

The continuous development of scientific knowledge and the rapid development of technology bring about significant changes in the diagnostic approach and therapeutic techniques of vascular diseases, and the subject matter of this Programme concerns the updating of knowledge and the development of research in the fields of diagnosis and treatment of patients with urgent vascular problems, including modern endovascular techniques.

The purpose of the Programme is to provide a high scientific level of theoretical knowledge as well as practical clinical skills that will make our graduates able to adequately provide their knowledge and successfully cope with the clinical challenges of managing patients with urgent vascular surgical problems who will be asked to face as health scientists in medical care facilities of the country and abroad.

In addition, the Programme aims at the academic training of its postgraduate students, so that on the one hand they acquire basic research and teaching skills and on the other hand, for those who wish, to acquire the necessary background for doctoral research and studies.

The subject of the Postgraduate Program “Therapeutic Options and Management of Emergency Vascular Surgical Conditions” at the School of Medicine,  AUTH, encompasses the study, research, and provision of postgraduate education in the management and therapeutic treatment of emergency vascular surgical conditions. This program reveals the critical factors of health and disease through research at both social and scientific levels, addressing both epidemic and chronic diseases. It elucidates how the study of history can aid in the refined understanding of a wide range of questions and dilemmas in contemporary medicine.

FAQ

The number of students admitted annually is set at a maximum of twenty-five (25) postgraduate students, with the possibility of adjusting this number based on the applicants and the capabilities of the program, as decided by the School Assembly.

The program cannot operate with fewer than eight (8) postgraduate students.

The program, following a decision by the School Assembly, announces positions through an open process. Specifically, the announcement includes the admission requirements, the number of students admitted, categories of candidates, admission procedure, selection criteria, application deadlines, and the necessary documentation.

The subject of the Postgraduate Program “Therapeutic Options and Management of Emergency Vascular Surgical Conditions” at the School of Medicine, AUTH, encompasses the study, research, and provision of postgraduate education in the management and therapeutic treatment of emergency vascular surgical conditions.

The purpose of the Postgraduate Program is to develop the critical and research skills necessary for doctoral-level studies and research activities in the field of emergency vascular surgery. The guiding philosophy of the program is to provide postgraduate students with a solid foundation, contemporary knowledge, methods, and fundamental principles that will enable them to pursue continuous education, improvement, and the creation of an innovative mindset through the application of modern technologies. Additionally, it aims to cultivate the critical and creative skills required for a socially and ethically responsible professional activity.

A significant part of the educational process involves the practical training of postgraduate students in their areas of specialization. An additional aim is the promotion and dissemination of knowledge, expertise, methodologies, tools, and research findings in the scientific field of Angiology and Vascular Surgery.

The Postgraduate Program “Therapeutic Options and Management of Emergency Vascular Surgical Conditions” is accredited with a total of 75 ECTS according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. It includes two semesters of full-time study and the summer period, during which the master’s thesis is completed and evaluated. The curriculum comprises five (5) compulsory core courses in the first semester, each worth 6 ECTS credits. In the second semester, students take five (5) additional compulsory courses, each also worth 6 ECTS credits. Finally, the master’s thesis is worth 15 ECTS credits. The total number of ECTS credits for the program is 75, with 1 ECTS credit corresponding to 25 hours of workload.

The postgraduate program includes tuition fees set at two thousand euros (2000) for each study cycle, payable in two (2) installments. The first installment of 1,000 euros is due at the start of the first semester, and the second installment of 1,000 euros is due at the start of the second semester. The payment of the tuition fees is made to the Special Account for Research Funds of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Failure to fulfill financial obligations constitutes sufficient grounds for not awarding the diploma or for expulsion from the postgraduate program.
