Admission Requirements and Application Process
The maximum number of admitted students per year is set at twenty-five (25) postgraduate students. This number can be modified based on the number of applications and the program’s capacity, subject to the decision of the School Assembly, the recommendation of the Postgraduate Studies Committee, and the approval of the Senate.
The program will not run with fewer than 8 (eight) postgraduate students.
Following a decision by the School Assembly, the program announces openings through an open procedure. The announcement specifies the admission requirements, the number of students to be admitted, categories of candidates, the admission process, selection criteria, application deadlines, and the required documentation.
Application Submission Process:
Typically, by the end of June each year, the School Assembly issues an official announcement of the available positions, inviting candidates to submit their applications for their preferred specialization. Applications are submitted during the first ten days of September.
Applicants must submit the following documents with their application:
a) Application form for the postgraduate program.
b) Copy of the degree(s) from a Greek university or TEI in a related field. For graduates of foreign universities, the provisions of Article 4 of the current regulations apply.
c) Detailed CV including studies, teaching and/or professional experience, and scientific and social activities.
d) A statement of up to 250 words outlining the candidate’s scientific interests and reasons for pursuing studies in the postgraduate program.
e) Language proficiency certificate for one of the EU languages other than the language of instruction of the program. Specifically:
- Certificate of language proficiency at least at B2 level (good knowledge) or higher, according to the Council of Europe system, accepted by ASEP, or
- TOEFL (English) with at least 87 points on the Internet-based test, or
- High school diploma or university degree from the country, or
- Degree in the corresponding Philology. For foreign applicants who do not hold a degree in Greek education, an additional certificate of Greek language proficiency from a Greek university or a Greek secondary education diploma or a degree from a Greek-speaking university School is required. If there is knowledge of a second foreign language, the corresponding certificate must also be submitted.
Foreign candidates must submit a Greek language proficiency certificate from a Greek university or a certificate of at least B2 level. If they hold a degree from a Greek-speaking university School, this degree suffices as proof of Greek language proficiency.
f) Proof of any research and publishing activities, participation in educational mobility programs, and professional experience related to the field of specialization.
g) Photocopy of the ID card.
The announcement of the available positions and the interview dates are made at the end of June each year. The selection process is carried out by a three-member committee of faculty members who teach in the postgraduate program and are appointed by the School Assembly.
The announcement of the postgraduate student admissions is published on the School’s and the program’s websites. Applications, along with the necessary documents, are submitted to the postgraduate program’s Secretariat electronically.
The above documents must be submitted either as certified copies or as simple photocopies.
Selection Process:
Selection is based on the total points from the evaluation criteria, as follows:
- General degree grade, multiplied by a factor of 1 (maximum 10 points)
- Previous research activity or participation in additional professional training, further education, or specialization programs in a related field, up to a maximum of 5 points.
- Possible professional experience and interest in the scientific field of emergency vascular surgery, from 1-10 points.
- Knowledge of an advanced or higher-level foreign language, 5 points.
- The score of the oral interview, multiplied by a factor of 3.5 (maximum 35 points).
The above scoring criteria will be detailed in each admission announcement.
The candidate selection process, based on a decision of the School Assembly, is carried out by a competent Three-Member Selection and Examination Committee composed of faculty members involved in postgraduate work.
The Committee compiles a complete list of all candidates, checks their qualifications, rejects those who do not meet the minimum criteria set by the School, and invites for an interview the shortlisted candidates who meet the prerequisites.
The list of successful candidates is ratified by the School Assembly.
In case of a tie in the final scoring and if the number of available positions has been filled, the final selection of the tied candidates will be based on specific scoring criteria such as research activity, any publications, and the degree grade, as outlined in each admission announcement.
The candidate selection process is completed by September 30.
Appeals regarding the selection process can be submitted within five (5) days from the announcement of the results. The relevant committee must inform the appellant in writing about the outcome of the appeal within twenty-one (21) days.
Personal Interview:
The interview is conducted by a three-member committee consisting of the program’s Director and 2 faculty members from the Selection Committee. The three areas of interest, with equal scoring weight, are:
a) Basic anatomy and physiology of the vascular system,
b) Pathophysiology of vascular diseases,
c) Basic research methodology.
