Programme Overview

The School of Medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences organizes and operates a Postgraduate Programme titled “TREATMENT OPTIONS AND MANAGEMENT OF VASCULAR SURGERY EMERGENCIES.”

The subject of the Postgraduate Programme “Therapeutic Options and Management of Emergency Vascular Surgical Emergencies” at the School of Medicine of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.) encompasses the study, research, and provision of postgraduate education in the management and therapeutic treatment of emergency vascular surgical emergencies.

The purpose of the Postgraduate Programme is to develop the critical and research skills required for doctoral-level studies and research activity in the fields of emergency vascular surgery. The guiding philosophy of the programme is to provide postgraduate students with a solid foundation, contemporary knowledge, methods, and fundamental principles that will enable them to pursue continuous education, improvement, and foster an innovative spirit through the application of modern technologies. Additionally, it aims to cultivate the critical and creative skills required for socially and ethically responsible professional activity. A significant part of the educational process involves the practical training of postgraduate students in their areas of specialization. An additional aim is the promotion and dissemination of knowledge, expertise, methodologies, tools, and research results in the scientific field of Angiology and Vascular Surgery.

The learning outcomes and corresponding qualifications for those who successfully complete the programme include: the cultivation and promotion of scientific knowledge in the field of managing patients with emergency vascular surgical emergencies, the development of relevant scientific research, and the provision of corresponding postgraduate education to meet the needs for postgraduate-level scientific personnel.

The studies in the Postgraduate Programme aim to advance knowledge, develop research, and meet the educational, research, and specialized medical and nursing needs of the country by training high-level scientists capable of contributing to both theoretical and applied areas of the specific field of emergency vascular surgery. In addition to basic scientific knowledge, postgraduate students gain the ability to:

The duration of studies in the Postgraduate Programme leading to the award of the Master’s Degree (MSc) is set at a minimum of two (2) semesters and the summer period, which includes the time for the preparation and evaluation of the master’s thesis.

The number of students admitted annually is set at a maximum of twenty-five (25) postgraduate students, with the possibility of adjusting this number based on the applicants and the capabilities of the programme, as decided by the Department Assembly. The programme cannot operate with fewer than eight (8) postgraduate students.

The programme includes tuition fees set at two thousand euros (2,000 €) for each study cycle, payable in two (2) installments. The first installment of 1,000 euros is due at the start of the first semester, and the second installment of 1,000 euros is due at the start of the second semester.
